Abstract:
The giant magnetoresistance (GMR) in Co/Cu/Co sandwiches with ferromagnetic Fe capping layer or nonmagnetic Ti or Cu capping layer was investigated at room temperature and low temperature. At room temperature, it is found that the coercivity and saturation field of Co/Cu/Co sandwiches with Fe capping layer are obviously reduced, though the GMR values of Co/Cu/Co sandwiches with all capping layers show no obvious change. However, the Ti, Cu capping layers don’t affect the coercivity and saturation field of Co/Cu/Co sandwiches. With temperature decreasing, the capping layers strongly enhancethe GMR values of Co/Cu/Co sandwiches. All the results suggest that the giant magnetoresistance in Co/Cu/Co sandwich is strongly influenced by capping layer and the interface between magnetic Co up-layer and capping layer.
