Abstract:
The natural dyes and biochar were prepared by ethanol extraction and one-step pyrolysis with purple hibiscus flower as raw material, then applied as photosensitizer and counter electrode for dye-sensitized solar cell(DSSC). Based on the structure characteristic analyses of the natural dyes and biochar, the photoelectric properties of the DSSC were investigated emphatically The results indicated that the natural dyes derived from purple hibiscus flower mainly contain anthocyanin, including peonidin, malvidin, delphinidin and pelargonidin. The conversion efficiency of DSSC was 0.18% by replaced the photosensitizer with natural dyes. The biochar derived from purple hibiscus flower compared to graphite has greaterspecific surface area, stronger electrolyte diffusion ability and more catalytic reduction activity point of I
3-,this can be attributed to the favorable characteristics of the biochar, such as hierarchical pore structure and glassy carbon skeleton. The efficiency of the biochar based DSSC was 1.08%. The conversion efficiency was 0.13% when the natural dyes and biochar from purple hibiscus flower were introduced into the DSSC.
