Abstract: The positron annihilation technique was employed to investigate the strain process in a series of FeMnSi shape memory alloys. The results indicate that the variation of defect structure associated with the different stages in the prestrain and with the composition of alloys. The influence of defects on the shape memory effect of alloys was discussed.
