Abstract:
With the specular-reflection model, the induced potential for a swift diatomic molecular ion moving near a metal surface is investigated. By using a local form of the bulk dielectric function, some analytic formula for the induced potential are deduced when the ion is moving parallel and/or perpendicular to the metal surface, respectively. It has been shown from numerical results that the induced potential is obviously influenced by variations of the relative distance between ions in the molecular ion.
