Abstract:
Corrosion behavior of the high damping 6061 aluminum alloy metal matrix composites containing silicon carbide particulate and crystalline flake graphite powder reinforcements fabricated by powdermetallurgy was investigated experimentally in seawater. The corrosion rate, electrode potential and polarization curves of the 6061 aluminum alloy and the high damping 6061 aluminum alloy metal matrix composites were measured in seawater. It shows that the corrosion resistance of the composites is inferior to that of 6061 aluminum alloy, pitting corrosion tendency of the composites is far larger than that of 6061 aluminum alloy in seawater. The protection measures are essential for the high damping 6061 aluminum alloy metal matrix composites serving in marine environment.
