Abstract:
A novel nonlinear optical crystal: manganese mercury thiocyanate-bis(dimethyl sulfoxide) MnHg(SCN)
4(C
2H
6SO
)2 (MMTD)was prepared. Its thermal and optical properties were studied by using thermogravimetry, differential thermal analysis, differential scanning calorimetry, thermomechanical analysis, transmission and infrared spectroscopy. The crystal possesses good physico- chemical stability. The specific heat of the crystal is 699.5 J/mol·℃ at 27℃. The thermal expansion coefficient along the a-, b-and c-axis is α
1 =5.33 x 10
-5/℃, α

-5/℃. Its UV transparency cutoff is 375 nm, and the transmission region is 375- 2560 nm. The optical transmission is 44.18% at 404 nm, which is higher than that of MnHg(SCN)
4 (MMTC).
