Abstract:
Energy transfer study has been made in Er
3+/Yb
3+ codoped P
2O
3-B
2O
3-Al
2O
3-SrO-BaO glasses. Er
3+/Yb
3+ codoped phosphate glass samples were prepared with high concentration of Yb
3+ ions. Enhancement of Er
3+ (
4I
13/2 →
4I
15/2)emission and a decrease in the Yb
3+ emission (
2F
7/2 →
2F
5/2) can be observed when the doping concentration ratio Er
3+/Yb
3+ is >1:18 (mol%) as a result of energy transfer from Yb
3+ ions to Er
3+ ions. When the concentration of Yb
3+ ions is high enough (N
Yb >2.1×10
21 ions/cm
3, Er
3+/Yb
3+ ≤1:18, mol%), emission intensity of Er
3+ decreases due to the radiative trapping of Yb
3+ ions. The best doping concentration of Yb
3+ ion was found to be approximately 1.74×10
21 ions/cm
3.
